Love Island viewers have taken to social media to debate over the age of contestants allowed to appear on the show, after feeling ‘uncomfortable’, with some calling for the age limit of the show (which is currently 18-years-old) to be increased.

Middlesbrough born Holly, who joined the original cast of Geordie Shore when she was just 18-years-old, took to the video sharing platform, TikTok to give her opinion, based on her personal experience.

The television personality, who will turn 31-years-old tomorrow (Friday, July 7), explained that although she is grateful for Geordie Shore and the opportunities it has given her, she does feel like she was far too young to appear on the show.

While applying make-up on the video, Holly said: “If you watched season one of Geordie Shore, you will know that it was absolutely hell on earth for me.”

She continued to say that her actions on the show were made when she was “blackout drunk”, and it upsets her to this day that nobody on the production team stepped in to help.

She further explained that the online abuse she received as a young reality star “massively affected” her.

Holly brought up the current conversation around age gaps on Love Island and said: “To have a 19-year-old potentially sharing a bed with a 27-year-old, I don’t think that’s right.”

She did go on to say that she feels that the wellbeing of contestants on reality shows has improved since she first appeared on Geordie Shore, but that the age limit should still be higher.

Holly suggested that the age requirement on reality TV shows should be around 25-years-old, going on to say: “Your brain is not even developed until 25”.
