Man’s body found at Cullercoats beach on Christmas Eve

A man’s body has been found on Cullercoats beach today.

Cullercoats beach was cordoned off on the morning of Christmas Eve as a man was found dead.

Members of the public, including keen Christmas Eve open water swimmers, were blocked from using the beach as the situation unfolded.

The North Tyneside beach is found between Tynemouth and Whitley Bay and is a popular spot for walkers, runners and swimmers.

Northumbria Police received a report of concern shorly after 9:45 am this morning and attended the inccident.

A spokesperson said: “Shortly after 9.45am today (Friday) we received a report of concern for the welfare of a man on the beach front at Cullercoats.

“Officers attended and found a man who was sadly deceased. Formal identification has yet to take place and investigations are ongoing.”
