Newcastle given top marks for comedy scene as locals and tourists praise city

Newcastle has been listed as the best place in the country for stand-up comedy.

A collection of 51,995 average four and five star ratings found in new research using TripAdvisor reviews marked the North East city as a great place for comedy.

A total of 91.1% of tourists believed the city was the best place for a live laugh, while locals piled in with even higher marks for their local comedy scene.

Totals as high as 94% were seen for Newcastle’s comedy scene when those living in the area were polled on it.

Newcastle also leads the rankings with the highest satisfaction rating for its casinos, with 81.2% of reviews marking the experience at four or five stars.

Researchers analysed a collection of 19,236 local reviews and 32,759 tourist reviews to find which cities in the UK had the best-rated nightlife attractions.

Music venues were also given high praise by tourists, with 97% of tourist reviews having strong praise for Newcastle’s variety of venues.

Out of all cities polled, Newcastle landed in 10th place for tourist satisfaction with its bars and pubs, with 73.2% rating the cities drinking establishments at four stars or higher.
