Newcastle restaurant celebrates receiving its first prestigious AA rosette

A restaurant in Jesmond has received a prestigious award for “culinary excellence”.

Lovage, on St George’s Terrace in Jesmond, opened less than two years ago and it has now been awarded a prestigious AA rosette.

The restaurant, which is co-owned by renowned chef Kleo Tabaku, has gone from strength to strength since it opened.

Last year, it received an inclusion in the Michelin Guide and this latest recognition puts it right at the forefront of Tyneside’s culinary industry.

The prestigious AA rosette is a big prize for Albanian-born Kleo, who always dreamed of having his own restaurant.

He commented: “It’s a genuine honour and I am absolutely delighted that we will now be able to display a plaque with the famous rosette – it’s wonderful news.”

Since opening, Lovage’s Mediterranean style bistro food has been a big hit with both customers and food critics, with the Telegraph’s William Sitwell awarding it five out of five stars for its “neat, delicate, good and honest cooking.”

Stuart Young, co-owner of Lovage and its sister restaurant Osters, on Gosforth High Street, said the accolade was testament “not only to Kleo and his wife Lisa, who does a superb job front of house, but to the skill and commitment of their entire team”.

He added: “They have achieved, in a very short time, what it takes most restaurants years to achieve and this recognition is richly deserved.”

Lovage is open from Wednesday to Sunday - for more information, visit: https://lovagejesmond.co.uk/.
