Newcastle’s Choriza May tells touching coming out story before controversial Drag Race elimination

Choriza shared a touching story in last night’s episode.

Newcastle-based drag queen Choriza May was controversially booted off Ru Paul's Drag Race UK last night.

The 30-year-old, who is originally from Spain but now lives on Tyneside, had become a firm favourite since her head-turning arrival in episode one.

Choriza cruised through the first five episodes of Drag Race UK's third season without finding herself in danger of elimination.

Many had even tipped the high-energy queen to be a potential winner of the show.

However, Choriza's Drag Race journey came to a shock end on Thursday night as she found herself in the centre of a surprise double elimination.

The episode challenged contestants to play the show's iconic Snatch Game, a take on game show Blankety Blank.

The Newcastle's Drag Idol 2019 winner impersonated singer Margarita Pracatan, despite warnings it might not be wise from Ru Paul, and stuttered in the challenge.

The star found herself lipsyncing for her life alongside Kent contestant River Medway but the performance left judges 'needing to see more' and both were sent home.

Choriza's elimination wasn't before another touching moment backstage as she told her coming out story.

The drag queen gathered fellow contestants around and said: "I came out to my parents when I was 11.

"They kind of forgot about it until I was 18 and that's when things started to get a little bit darker with me and my dad.

"He never told me he had a problem with it, he just seemed like he hated me for everything that I was doing.

"Talking to my mum, she said the real reason was that he had been struggling to accept the fact that his son was in fact gay.

"It took us a while to get to the point now where he loves and accepts me."

After her elimination, fans took to social media to vent their surprise and frustration.

One wrote: "It’s gonna be a subdued show without you. You’re a funny and talented queen."

Another said: "Respectfully, why has Choriza May, the winner of DRUK Season 3, been sent home in Episode 6?"
