A local man found a novel way of capitalising on the flooding that has hit Newcastle today.
Over in South Shields one man dusted off his kayak and took a spin around the flooded roads of Tyneside.
The Shields Gazette were out and about in the area and photographer Stu Norton caught the bizarre moment on camera.
The kayaker didn’t look to be in much of a rush as he paddled around, although he was covering more distance than many cars and Metro trains in Newcastle on Tuesday morning.
Heavy rain caused roads to close and grounded Metro services.
Respite from the rain at lunchtime has provided a brief respite with most roads and Metro lines now back to normal.
However, Newcastle isn’t home and dry yet with the Met Office predicting that the heavy rain will be back with a vengeance throughout the afternoon and evening on Tuesday.
