The Shields Gazette were out and about in the area and photographer Stu Norton caught the bizarre moment on camera.
The kayaker didn’t look to be in much of a rush as he paddled around, although he was covering more distance than many cars and Metro trains in Newcastle on Tuesday morning.
Heavy rain caused roads to close and grounded Metro services.

However, Newcastle isn’t home and dry yet with the Met Office predicting that the heavy rain will be back with a vengeance throughout the afternoon and evening on Tuesday.
