North East Christmas markets 2023: Every event including Durham & Newcastle

Festive markets will soon be popping up across the country and here’s how you can get involved across the North East.

Halloween is nearly here and Christmas light switch-ons are being prepared across the region, meaning the festive season is starting to creep up on us.

Whether you have already finished your Christmas shopping or haven’t even started yet, Christmas Markets offer plenty of stocking fillers and there is plenty across the region to keep an eye on this winter. These are some of the top Christmas markets announced so far across the North East.

Newcastle Christmas Market

Newcastle’s Christmas market is obviously the best known in the North East and the site will popping up again very soon. Based around Grey’s Monument, the market will open on Saturday, November 18 and run until Saturday, December 23.

Stalls will be open from 10am to 8pm between Monday and Saturday and 10am to 5pm on a Sunday.

Durham Christmas Market

Durham has dedicated a full weekend to Christmas build up in the city centre.

From Friday, December 1 to Sunday, December 3 the city will come alive with stalls and family entertainment. Organisers are promising over 200 independent traders with events taking place across Palace Green, Durham Market Place and Durham Market Hall.

The Palace Green market requires payment for entry but the remainder of events across the weekend are free.

Beamish Christmas Market

Further South in Durham, the popular Beamish Hall Christmas Market is returning over Friday, November 17, Saturday, November 18 and Sunday, November 19.

The site is promising a huge range of stalls which will take over the ground floor of Beamish Hall from gifts to snacks and stocking fillers.

Anyone wanting to attend needs to book in advance.

Sunderland Christmas craft fair

On the same weekend as the Beamish Hall offering, Sunderland’s National Glass Centre will be hosting local and regional crafters , all with festive twists. The event will be open to the public between 10am and 5pm across the weekend.

Wynyard Hall Christmas Fair

November 17 to 19th is a popular weekend for Christmas markets as, further afield, Wynyard Hall is also hosting its popular festive fair.

The site claims to have curated a spectacular event to kick start the Christmas period with a range of handcrafted gifts, artisanal treats, and one-of-a-kind treasures.

Tickets for this event also need to be booked online ahead of the weekend. This can be done online.
