Northumbria Police appeal for information following taxi driver assault

Officers investigating an assault on a taxi driver in Newcastle have issued an image of a man they would like to trace.

Two men are said to have used a taxi shortly after 4am on Monday, April 11 to drive them to an address on Ayton Street in Byker.

On arrival, it is said that the two men became verbally abusive and proceeded to assault the 32-year-old taxi driver, punching and kicking the driver of the vehicle.

The two offenders left the vehicle and entered the address they had been driven to, and it is alleged that they both returned outside to cause damage to the door and bumper of the car.

An investigation into the incident is currently ongoing and officers have identified a man in their enquiries that they would like to trace.

He was last seen in the area at the time of the assault and could have information that would assist police investigation.
