Police issue statement after alleged Whitley Bay assault outside Plaza Pizza

Police are investigating reports of an assault that took place outside Plaza Pizza takeaway in Whitley Bay on Sunday.

Northumbria Police confirmed that they were alerted to reports that a man had been assaulted by a third party just before 8:30 pm on Sunday night.

A police spokesperson said: “Just before 8:30 pm last night (Sunday), police received a third party report a man had been assaulted outside Plaza Pizza takeaway on Victoria Terrace in Whitley Bay.

"It is believed a 19-year-old man was approached by a stranger and struck in the face on Saturday night. He was left with facial injuries.

“Enquires are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact us by calling 101 or via the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of our website, quoting crime 018581Y/23.”
