Ranked: Number of Satanists in the North East region by region

At least a handful of people in every area of the North East selected Satanism as their religion in the 2021 Census.

The most common religion amongst people in the North East is Christianity, with over 1.3 million practicing Christians in the region as of 2021.

That data comes from the Office for National Statistics Census, which many will be aware comes about every 10 years.

The Census asks a wide range of questions to get an idea of who is living in the United Kingdom, and one of those is which religion residents practice. In the North East, Christianity is by far the most popular, with no religion close behind in second - over one million people crossed that box in the last Census.

After that, there are over 72,000 people who identify as Muslim, the third most common response. Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist and Jewish all also had thousands of selections each in the North East.

Data released by the Office for National Statistics shows all the religions selected in the 2021 Census, and throws up some very niche and perhaps surprising answers.

One of those is Satanism, with people in every area of the North East ticking that box - whether it be as a joke or because they truly do worship Satan.

Nationwide, Satanism is the 22nd most popular religion according to the Census, and below you can see how many respondents tickets that box in the local authorities of the North East.
