The new academic year will bring challanges, friendships and plenty of stories for those starting university for the first time, as well as those returning for second and third years as well as postgraduate courses.
First of all, we want to wish everyone starting their journey in Newcastle a massive congratulations - you’re now in one of the best cities in the country, not only for the student experience, but in general!
Personally, I moved to the North East back in 2016 from Kent, and eight years later I still call the region my home, and I’m very proud to do so.
As a welcome present, to anyone still settling into their new surroundings, these are some of the dos and don’ts of living as a student in the North East - from someone who has made the trip themselves.

1. Don't get caught in the university bubble
The move to a new part of the country can be daunting, and it can be easy to stay within the confines of your accomodation blocks or campus. Our first tip is to try and not do that! The city as a whole is very student friendly and you'll get the full North East experience if you head out and explore away from your immediate surroundings. | Submitted Photo: Submitted

2. Explore the region
Speaking of getting away from the student bubble, there is more to the North East than just Newcastle. From the stunning coastline to other major cities such as Durham as the North Pennines slightly further afield, you can never get bored! | Owen Humphreys/PA Wire Photo: Owen Humphreys/PA Wire

3. Get yourself to a Newcastle United game
It may be a cliche to describe the North East as a footballing hotbed, but the region's major cities are hugely influenced by the clubs they call their own. It can be tough to get tickets to Newcastle United fixtures these days, but you'll understand the city a lot more by just being around 52,000 locals. | Getty Images

4. Enjoy the nightlife
Newcastle is obviously well known for its clubs and bars, with the city welcoming stag and hen dos from across the country. Even if nights out aren't usually your thing, there is a bar for everyone in the city - get out there and have a great time! | Rusty’s
