The 12 Tyneside restaurants needing ‘MAJOR hygiene improvement’
These are the Tyneside restaurants scoring a lowly one on the Food Standards Agency ratings
A total of 12 restaurants and cafes across Tyneside need ‘major improvement’ when it comes to hygiene standards.
The Food Standards Agency regularly inspects premises selling food across the UK and awards them a rating in relation to their food handling process.
The scale is out of five with five stars meaning that “hygiene standards are very good”.
At the other end of the scale, a rating of zero meant urgent improvement is needed and one star equates to major improvement.
During the inspection, a food safety officer looks at how hygienically the food is handled, the physical condition of the business and how the business manages ways of keeping food safe.
NewcastleWorld delved into The Food Standards Agency history to look at which Tyneside restaurants recorded a one-star rating or below in their last inspection.
The area covered includes Newcastle, Gateshead, North Tyneside and South Tyneside with all restaurants, cafes and canteens taken into account.
That doesn’t include bars and takeaways.
