From Monday, August 1 until Wednesday, August 3, the A187 slip road to Wallsend will be closed due to roadworks.

The closure will be in place overnight from 8 pm to 5 am daily and drivers are being instructed to follow a diversion.

After leaving the Northbound Tunnel, cars should continue North on the A19.

Once drivers reach the first slip road, they should take the third exit and follow the diversion signs in place.

Tyne Tunnel operators TT2 have re-assured users that the maximum is being done to ensure traffic flows well whilst the works are underway.

An online statement read: "As always, we endeavour to minimise traffic disruption during roadworks and thank you for your patience as we continue to improve your Tyne Tunnels experience."
