North Tyneside and South Tyneside are two of just 16 council areas that are bucking a national trend in Covid-19 cases.

That infectious variant now looks to have passed its peak with case numbers falling in nearly every UK region week-on-week.

Across the UK's 380 local authority areas shown in the latest data, all have seen a marked fall in Covid-19 cases, except for 16 areas.

Six of those 16 are in the North East, with two being right on our doorstep.

North Tyneside and South Tyneside are still seeing an increase in Covid-19 cases, despite the national trend.

In South Tyneside, the number changed from 1072 to 1076.

With just a 0.4% increase in positive tests, the rise of cases in the area is nonetheless levelling out.

South Staffordshire in the West Midlands is the area that is still seeing the most dramatic rise in Covid-19 cases with a 7.5% increase.

The greatest drop was recorded on the Causeway Coast and Glens with a 42.9% decrease.
