Watch as Newcastle United and Borussia Dortmund fans clash ahead of Champions League fixture

Traffic in Newcastle once again stood still on Wednesday evening as Borussia Dortmund fans made their way to St James Park for their side’s Champions League fixture against Newcastle United.

After Paris St Germain fans forced roads to close for their march earlier in the group stage, Dortmund fans did the same, taking a slightly different route to their French counterparts.

Around 3,000 away tickets were sold for the game.

The march, which was flanked by police officers, started by Grey’s Monument in the city centre before running up Blackett Street and onto Percy Street before reaching St James Park via St James Park Road and Terrace Place.

Despite a large police presence, minor skirmishes between opposing fans took place, most notably on Blackett Street although any issues were resolved quickly.

Following the game at St James Park, Newcastle only have one home group game remaining in the Champions League. This will take place on Wednesday, December 13.
