After an eventful and, at times, triumphant return to the Champions League for Newcastle United this season, a dip in league form has caused fans to reconsider their goals and expectations for the remainder of the 2023-24 season.

Eddie Howe's side currently sit in mid-table, 16 points away from the Champions League spots with ten games remaining going into the March international break.

The return of the Champions League was huge for fans, with plenty of Geordies travelling to Paris, Dortmund and Milan while fans from across the continent travelled to the North East, including groups os organised ultras groups supporting the teams in Newcastle's group.

Ahead of the final push of the season, we took to the streets of Newcastle and asked fans if they thought Newcastle United could still qualify for Europe, and it isn't looking good according to the residents we spoke with.

One Newcastle fan we spoke to, John, said: "I don't think they've got enough points in the bag" although another, Johathan, believes things are still set to fall into place.

"There is a chance because of the fifth extra place in the Champions League" he explained. "West ham did everyone a bit of a favour beating Freiburg. It's going to be hard, especially with the injuries, but there's a better possibility now."

We even found a Newcastle resident who is originally from London and, as an Arsenal fan, he said: I think they're going to struggle. I don't even think they'll get into the UEFA Cup [now renamed the Europa League]."
