A giddy Sam Fender couldn't help but chuckle as he watched Newcastle United beat Fulham 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.

The North Shields star saw the Magpies clinch the three points from a pub in London, rather than St. James' Park, in what he labelled 'behind enemy lines'.

The singer posted a couple of short videos on his Instagram story as he enjoyed the match with friend and bandmate Dean Thompson. In the first, the two were seen whispering their allegiances from the pub near Fulham and in the second could hardly contain their glee as Alexander Isak grabbed a late winner.

"Watching the match behind enemy lines," Fender first wrote. After the win he then added, "we are getting chinned soon like".

The Geordies appeared to be watching the game from the Sydney Arms in Chelsea, just under three miles from Fulham's home ground of Craven Cottage.

Fender is of course a huge Newcastle United fan. The star often shares clips of himself watching matches, sports black and white merch whilst on stage and famously partied at St. James' Park on takeover day before a BBC Breakfast appearance the next day in a fetching Newcastle jacket.

The 'Seventeen Going Under' singer is also playing two sold-out nights at St. James' Park this June in what is set to be a landmark moment in his ever-rising career.

Having spent 2022 on the road playing his critically-acclaimed sophomore album, Fender fans will be hoping for more new music over the next 12 months.

Fender producer Dean Thompson posed for a photo behind the producer's screen and deck and confirmed that work is "underway" on Fender's third studio album. The next record will follow the first two critically acclaimed efforts Hypersonic Missiles and Seventeen Going Under.

Dean Thompson wrote: "Season's greetings to all! When I was a wee lad working at a studio in Newcastle I cut my teeth on a @solidstatelogic AWS console. We’re busy grafting away on album number 3 at the moment and we owe a HUGE thank you to @solidstatelogic for sending us some incredibly useful tools to help craft the record. It’s absolutely class to have things go full circle so thank you very very much indeed."

Did what he was brought on to do, and that was win the game. Showed a lot of intent when he got on the ball and scored a dramatic winner. Did what he was brought on to do, and that was win the game. Showed a lot of intent when he got on the ball and scored a dramatic winner.

One person responded in the comments and said: "Merrily Christmas - best gift ever knowing the 3rd album is underway."

Others wrote "can't wait for some lovely new music" and "I like the sound of album three".
