Where the North East ranks in regions across UK worst affected by Monkeypox

London is the worst affected, but where does the North East measure?

Last weekend the World Health Organisation declared the monkeypox outbreak as a global health emergency and cases are being found in the UK.

The NHS are reassuring the public that the outbreak is not a major cause for concern with infection numbers still low and under control.

The rare disease is caused by infection with the monkeypox virus and is usually a mild illness that gets better without treatment - although a small percentage of people may develop more serious symptoms that require hospitalisation.

Vulnerable groups of people are being offered vaccines, with the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) including healthcare workers, gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM) at highest risk of exposure and anyone who may have been in contact with a confirmed case.

So far, 2,325 cases have been recorded in the UK.

Here are the areas worth affected, and where the North East ranks in the list.
