Woman arrested after alleged assault outside Greenside shop

A police cordon is in place near the Spar store in Greenside after an alleged attack on Tuesday evening.
Northumbria Police have confirmed reports that a man in his 30s was assaulted near the shop on Lead Road in Greenside at around 8:20 pm yesterday.

Hide AdA police presence remains in place in the village with an investigation ongoing.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 5 am today (Wednesday), we were contacted by accident and emergency staff from Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead, to report that a man was currently being treated for serious injuries after an alleged assault.
“It was reported that a man in his 30s was assaulted near the Spar store on Lead Road in Greenside at around 8.20 pm yesterday (Tuesday).
“The victim was dropped off at A&E by a friend and hospital staff contacted officers.

Hide Ad“An investigation into the incident was immediately launched and a 33-year-old woman has been arrested in connection to the incident. She remains in police custody at this time and enquiries are ongoing.”
