Easter is coming around fast, and you might be thinking of places to take the family during the two week school holiday.

If you are stuck for ideas, here’s a selection of events and activities taking place in and around Newcastle during the Easter holidays

Easter Egg Hunt at Tynemouth Park

Head over to Tynemouth Park for a special Easter egg hunt which takes place in a maze.

The Easter egg hunt will be running from Saturday 9 to Sunday 24 of April, 9.30am – 5.00pm at half hour intervals.

Adults will be asked to pay £2.50 for entry whilst child tickets are £12.50.

Easter extravaganza at the Discovery Museum

A day of crafts and fun will be had at the museum, where Easter events run from 12-14 April between 10am - 12 noon and 1pm - 3pm.

You can get stuck into bunny-tastic Easter crafts at Discovery Museum’s custom built Play + Invent creation stations.

These family crafts are suitable for children age 6 and over, although younger members of the family are always welcome too.

Entry is £2 and correct change is appreciated by the museum.

You can enjoy sumptuous American-style breakfast and party with the cafe’s very own Easter Bunny.

All kids receive a free Easter egg and a fun filled morning of entertainment.

The cafe is running an Easter egg competition so make sure to bring along your fantastic and creative eggs to join the event.

The event takes place on 17 April and is £9.95 per person.

The fantastic historical museum has celebrations planned for the Easter weekend.

From egg painting to egg rolling, you’ll have a blast at the museum. As with all day events at Beamish, you can use your unlimited pass.

The marvellous open top bus returns for weekend trips from 9 April, and this includes bank holidays.

You can take in the many sights of the city, or stop off at one of the 17 stops on the route.

The bus starts at Central Station and costs £12.50 for adults, £10 for Concessions and Students, £6 for children under 16 and £30 for a group of four.

Easter Egg Hunts at Gibside

Easter trails set against the background of this Georgian landscape garden.

There are 10 trail points for you to find, with activities to complete at each station. Along the route you can discover what makes Gibside special in spring.

The trail opened up on 2 April and will run until 19 April 2022, so come along and explore the beautiful landscape garden of Gibside.

The price of the trail is £3 per child and includes a trail map, pencil and a chocolate egg at the end.

Bug hunting with Urban Green Newcastle

Organised by Urban Green, the group which takes care of many Newcastle parks, the hunt is taking place in various parks across the city during the Easter holidays.

The event is free and families can drop in at the parks between 10am-3pm on the dates listed below.

  • Tyne Riverside Country Park: Tuesday 12 April
  • Leazes Park: Thursday 14 April 
  • Walker Park: Friday 15 April
  • Gosforth Central Park: Tuesday 19 April
  • Heaton Park: Thursday 21 April
  • Nuns Moor Park: Friday 22 April
