All the best free agents who are on course to be available to Newcastle United this summer.

Newcastle United are already preparing for the new season as they look to add to their squad over the course of the summer.

The summer transfer window is now open, and the Magpies will want to be decisive in their moves ahead of the new season as they look to build a squad capable of competing in the Champions League. FFP will likely provide challenges, though, with Howe unlikely to be handed an overly big budget due to the club’s spending over recent years.

It’s for that reason free agents might be worth considering, and there are plenty of quality options on the table as things stand. Here we run you through the best of them.

Wilfried Zaha

Zaha looks set to refuse a move to Saudi Arabia, and he he should remain available over the coming weeks. His quality is undeniable and he has bags of Premier League experience having proven himself over and again at Crystal Palace.

Daniel Amartey

Amartey is a versatile player who will be a very useful signing for someone this summer when he leaves Leicester City. Amartey has had injury issues in the past, but he should be in demand this summer.

Adama Traore

Traore impressed for Wolves this season after his return, and he would be a useful depth option for Newcastle as they head into a European campaign. He has pace to burn and can play on the wing or at wing-back.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Oxlade-Chamberlain may wind up at Aston Villa, but he remains available right now. He is Howe’s kind of player, willing to put in a shift in midfield, and he has plenty of experience.

Lucas Moura

The pacey winger needs a new club after confirming his Tottenham exit. He is used to Premier League football and is still more than capable of causing damage. A move abroad is more likely, but he remains available.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles

Maitland-Niles will be on the move at the end of his Arsenal contract after spending time on loan with Southampton last season. He is a versatile midfielder who would offer support at more than one position in Howe’s squad.

Dani Ceballos

Ceballos hasn’t been tied up by Real Madrid just yet, and he would be a good signing for the Magpies. He has Premier League experience having spent time on loan at Arsenal, and he has plenty of quality in midfield.

Aleix Garcia

The Girona midfielder has plenty of quality and plenty of fight, making him the right kind of midfielder for Howe and Newcastle. He plays with an aggressive style and will be available on a free this summer.

Matt Doherty

Doherty has had a forgettable spell with Atletico Madrid, but he still offers plenty and will likely to return to the Premier League this summer. Doherty is a pacey wing-back who could be a very good back-up option for Kieran Trippier.

Marcus Thuram

Probably the best free agent on the market this summer, the France striker still hasn’t agreed a deal with a new club. Thuram would offer something different and then some up front, but Newcastle are not likely to be able to promise him a starting role due to the competition they have between Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson.
