Alexander Isak 'head turned' claim after Arsenal interest - Newcastle United will hate this

The Magpies have no intention of selling their Swedish sensation, who boasts an incredible record of 52 goals in just 91 appearances since joining from Real Sociedad for £63million two and half years ago.

It would take an extortionate sum of money to prize Isak away from St James’ Park, with United valuing the striker in excess of £150million.

However, that hasn’t stopped every pundit under the sun from discussing Isak’s future.

Heskey is different in some regards by being one of the few to say Isak will stay at St James’ Park next campaign. However, there are two things he said that will miff Newcastle supporters.

“If I was Alexander Isak, the rumours on Arsenal would make it very difficult for my head not to turn,” said the former Premier League striker. “It’s a huge club, not to say that Newcastle isn’t, but everyone wants to be in London!

“That said, I do think Isak will still be at Newcastle next season. Do they need to sell him? No. Their ambition is to get back amongst the elite in the Premier League, and he’s that player to get them there.

“If Newcastle were to get rid of him, it’d show everyone that they aren’t willing to fight and start challenging the top four again.”

Not only did Heskey controversially claim it would be hard for Isak’s head not to turn for Arsenal, but he also played into the lazy narrative that “everyone wants to be in London”.

Perhaps the irony is Heskey, who retired in 2016, never played for a London club during his playing career.
