Amanda Staveley given Newcastle United 'return' message from inside Magpies' dressing room
Newcastle United skipper Bruno Guimaraes posted a message to former Magpies’ director Amanda Staveley.
Things definitely haven’t quite been the same since Amanda Staveley left Newcastle United.
While majority owners PIF wanted to ensure the club was running efficiently, with those employed to do the job empowered with all the tools, the club has lost a personal touch since Staveley and husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi departed the building.
Amanda Staveley exits Newcastle United
Back in July 2024, Newcastle United co-owners Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi left the club after three successful years at St James’ Park.
Staveley, 51, was a catalyst for the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund’s (PIF) purchase of an 80 per cent stake in Newcastle for £300m back in 2021, and she played a key role in orchestrating negotiations with former owner Mike Ashley as his 14-year tenure as owner came to an end.
Staveley and her business partners completed their takeover of the Magpies at a time when the club were 19th in the Premier League table and winless in October under former boss Steve Bruce. She ambitiously predicted that Newcastle could win the Premier League in five years time and within just 18 months and had helped oversee the club’s return to the Champions League after a 20-year hiatus.
Despite her minority stake, Staveley has been a key figure behind the scenes at Newcastle and has mainly been seen as the main line of communication between the ownership and supporters alongside Ghodoussi.
Staveley key role behind the scenes
As well as being the link between owners and fans, Staveley was key for keeping things together behind the scenes at the club, too. Not only did she perform a professional role within NUFC, she also took on motherly responsibilities when it came to players, their families and intra-club relations. It was the unseen side of the upshot of having Staveley around.
And that has clearly not been lost on skipper Bruno Guimaraes. The United captain has taken to Instagram to show his support for Staveley, commenting on her latest post about the women’s team.
Not only that, Guimaraes has gone one stop further than support, in fact, he’s called for her to return to the club.
Bruno Guimaraes calls for Amanda Staveley return
On Sunday, Staveley posted this message of support to NUFC women: “Wishing @beckylangley4 and all @newcastleunitedwomen huge luck for this afternoon’s game! Missing you all - so proud of your incredible achievements over the last 3 years!”
Guimaraes was one of those who posted a response, doing so prior to NUFC’s 0-0 draw down at Bournemouth.
He said: “Come Back queen 🖤🤍.”
There’s certainly no hiding how Guimaraes feels about Staveley and the impact she had at Newcastle United.
AFC Bournemouth 0 Newcastle United 0
Newcastle United recorded a third 0-0 draw of the 2025-26 season - and it again came on the road.

The Magpies are yet to score or concede away from this campaign as they drew with AFC Bournemouth on the South Coast.,
Howe made seven changes from Thursday’s 2-1 defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League, with captain Bruno Guimaraes the biggest omission.
Guimaraes, Kieran Trippier, Joelinton, Harvey Barnes and Anthony Elanga dropped to the bench, while Fabian Schar missed out with a head injury and Anthony Gordon through suspension.
That saw new signing Malick Thiaw, Lewis Hall, Joe Willock and Lewis Miley handed their first starts of the 2025-26 campaign. Sven Botman, Nick Woltemade and Jacob Murphy also came into the starting XI.
Bournemouth thought they had taken the lead in the 15th minute when David Brooks converted from seven yards, however the offside flag swiftly cut short the celebrations.
And that was that really until early in the second half when Woltemade had a penalty appealed turned down by referee Robert Jones after the German striker went to ground following a shirt pull by Bafode Diakite. VAR did not intervene.
