Anthony Gordon already knows where he must improve amid £45m Newcastle United agreement

Anthony Gordon has already admitted where he needs to improve amid his impending Newcastle United move.

Anthony Gordon already knows what he must improve on amid a big-money move to Newcastle United.

Gordon is set to arrive at Newcastle on a deal worth as much as £45million, leaving an Everton side battling for survival at the bottom. The youngster will join a Newcastle side battling for Champions Leaguefootball, and he will be looking to continue his impressive development, still only 21 years of age.

The young striker has garnered mixed views from Everton fans, especially in the wake of his exit, but Newcastle fans believe they may have snapped up another gem as the club continues to prepare for the future. Gordon has already racked up 65 Premier League appearances for Everton, despite his youth, scoring seven times along the way.

Though, even he knows he has a lot to learn, telling Everton’s official website earlier this year: “I need to improve what leads up to the goals and assists. Joe has been trying to get me to go really quick, really quick, then slow down at the last second. To add that bit of composure, to finish the chance.

“I always feel dangerous in a game and know defenders don’t like playing against me. Then it is down to me to have that bit of composure and knowledge in the final third, to calm myself down and make the right decision. There are subtle changes for every game. I play against different full-backs, with different attributes, and I have to exploit the weaknesses.

“I study clips of players doing well against them and try to replicate that. If they struggle with wingers inside, I go inside, and if they struggle with a winger going wide and running in behind, I will do that.”

Newcastle fans will surely be impressed by Gordon’s eagerness to learn and improve, and those sorts of comments will give Eddie Howe plenty of hope as he looks to develop his new signing into a real star at St James’ Park.
