Anthony Gordon sends transfer message to £60m Newcastle United 'target' who loves St James' Park

Newcastle United fans might be hoping Anthony Gordon can work his magic as a make-shift agent after admitting he would ‘absolutely love’ to have Marc Guehi on board at St James’ Park.
Guehi has emerged as a potential summer target for Newcastle, with defensive reinforcements known to be a key priority for manager Eddie Howe. The 23-year-old has enjoyed another excellent season at the heart of Crystal Palace’s back-line and attracted plenty of interest across the Premier League, with reported price-tags around £60million.

“He’s top, he’s such a good player and I was glad the nation got to see him shine on that stage because he’s such a lovely guy and he deserves what’s coming to him,” Gordon said in an exclusive interview with talkSPORT. “I thought he was unbelievable in that game [vs Serbia] considering his height compared to the strikers they had on.
“He won every header, he was aggressive, intercepting loads and his main strength is composure on the ball, he’s like a midfielder. So him and Stonesy [John Stones] at the back, it's a great partnership to control a game. I haven’t actually seen the Newcastle links, but it goes without saying I’d absolutely love him to come because he’s a top player and he’d make us a better team.”
Guehi has been a regular at Palace for a number of seasons now and has enjoyed plenty of Premier League football up and down the country. And the England defender is also a fan of Newcastle by the looks of things - or at least their stadium.

It is unclear whether Newcastle would push forward with a move for Guehi but any attempt would likely face stiff competition. Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea have all been keeping tabs on the centre-back and a strong showing at Euro 2024 would only intensify interest.
Newcastle’s need for centre-back reinforcements comes off the back of a woeful injury crisis last season. Howe lost Fabian Schar, Dan Burn, Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles for long periods throughout the campaign, with the latter pair expected to miss a large portion of next season. There is also a desire to have more strength in depth, regardless.
