Former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock hailed Alexander Isak as “superb” following Newcastle United’s 4-0 rout over Tottenham Hotspur - comparing the striker to Usain Bolt.

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry is the image Isak has evoked since arriving from Real Sociedad in August 2022. Those parallels were drawn immediately after his impressive debut against Liverpool - where he bagged a goal and cruelly had another disallowed.

Isak has gone from strength to strength ever since, with a brace against Spurs putting him on 21 goals across all competitions. A destructive performance brushed Ange Postecoglou’s men aside in brutal fashion and reignited potential Champions League talk.

The Magpies sit 10 points behind Tottenham - who are fifth - with six games remaining but do have a favourable fixture list. Newcastle would also be relying on English clubs to up their game in Europe and earn an extra spot via the UEFA coefficient system.

Isak continuing his purple patch is also essential if United are to finish the season strongly. The Swede has seven goals in his last six Premier League games - with 21 across all competitions overall.

Ex-Liverpool left-back Warnock was blown away by Isak following his Spurs performance. He told Sky Sports: “He is brilliant. He is superb. I love the fact that for such a slight guy, in how slim he is, he is not like your typical number nine.

“He’s very agile, very quick in the way he covers the ground, he’s almost built like Usain Bolt, isn’t he? What he has got in great composure.

“He didn’t have that before he came to the club. That’s being coached into him. There’s been a huge improvement in that side of the game.”
