Bruno Guimaraes has reiterated he is “happy” at Newcastle United following the 3-1 win over Aston Villa. The Brazilian was back to his sublime best on Tuesday as the Magpies earned a shock victory against one of the Premier League’s most in-form sides. Villa were top of the home table, remaining unbeaten for almost a year while Newcastle were the second worst in the division on the road.

But that mattered little at the full-time whistle as Newcastle celebrated arguably their best top-flight win in 2023-24. A brace from Fabian Schar and an Alex Moreno own goal sealed Villa’s fate as the travelling supporters celebrated long into the night.

In the second half, United relied on their midfield talisman to keep the game under control. Guimaraes was effective in possession, providing the glue in the Magpies’ midfield while Sean Longstaff and Lewis Miley covered the hard yards.

Speculation has been rife about Guimaraes’ future despite him penning a contract extension in October. NewcastleWorld understands there is a £100million release clause in the 26-year-old’s new deal and reports have linked Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool as potential suitors.

Just 11 months ago, the midfielder expressed his desire to become “a legend” on Tyneside ahead of the Carabao Cup final. He said: “I hope to be a legend here. I know that this club can be one of the giants. It starts this weekend. Win or lose, we’re back at Wembley and I know how special it is for the fans.”

Guimaraes, two years to the day since joining from Lyon, has now reassured fans that he remains content with St James’ Park life after beating Villa. He posted on social media: "Two happy years in this team, with a very important win! Thank you for everything, NUFC fans. I’m happy here!"
