Bruno Guimaraes admitted the 2023-24 campaign contained a “huge mix of emotions” amid reported interest over his Newcastle United future.

No player featured more times for the Magpies than Guimaraes last season. The Brazilian only missed November’s 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth through suspension - and played in every other game across all competitions.

Guimaraes even navigated his way through an 11-game spell where he had to tread carefully as a booking would have resulted in a two-game ban. His consistency and ever-present ability were two key reasons behind Newcastle launching a late bid for a European spot.

That goal will be achieved if Manchester City lift the FA Cup this weekend. Should Pep Guardiola’s side overcome Manchester United, the Magpies’ hopes of keeping Guimaraes improve.

The midfielder has been the subject of much transfer speculation given the £100million release clause in his Toon contract. Posting on social media, Guimaraes thanked Newcastle fans for their support while insisting the season could have turned out differently without the crippling injury list.

“We've reached the end of another season and I couldn't let it pass without thanking our fans and sharing my thoughts on everything we've been through this year,” he wrote. “It has been a huge mix of emotions but I'm certain that I gave my best at all times, as did the entire team.

“It was a season full of injuries and I'm sure we could have done much more if we had been at full strength. Even so, I think we achieved a lot with the little we had this year. Personally, it was a great pleasure to be present in 50 out of 51 games this year.

“I was the player who covered the most kilometres in the Premier League. Taking the club back to the Champions League after 20 years is something we will never forget, and I'm sure we deserved better luck. This is yet another season that will stay in our memories and serve as an example for the ones to come! Thank you, Jesus, for all the blessings and opportunities.”
