Bruno Guimaraes suffered a painful blow during Brazil training this afternoon. The 25-year-old required medical attention after a shot from Manchester United’s Anthony hit Guimaraes’ jaw.

Footage from journalist Isabelle Costa (see below) captures the Newcastle United midfielder being checked out by the Brazil physios before stretching out his jaw.

While Guimaraes clearly felt the effects of Antony’s shot, the good news is the Magpies star was able to continue as he and his teammates prepare for their final World Cup group game against Cameroon on Friday.

The former Lyon midfielder made his World Cup debut as a 58th-minute substitute in the 1-0 win over Switzerland last night, three points that Brazil’s guaranteed place in the last 16.

“For me, to be honest, I was a little anxious, first game in the World Cup,” Guimaraes told Globo. “But after I touched the ball for the first time, it got better.

“I think we deserved the three points, we played well, especially in the second half. Now we’re qualified, right, the first step has already been conquered, really very proud of the team, it was a very difficult game.”

Guimaraes is in line to start against Cameroon with Tite likely to rest key players ahead of the knockout stages.
