The Newcastle United transfer will be made official on July 1.

Feyenoord have welcomed the arrival of Yankuba Minteh following his season-long loan move from Newcastle United.

Newcastle announced the £6million signing of Minteh from Danish club Odense Boldklub on Monday and immediately confirmed he had joined the Dutch champions on loan for the 2023-24 campaign, which will become official on July 1.

The 18-year-old made 17 appearances during his breakthrough season, scoring four goals and registering six assists.

In a club statement released by Feyenoord, the Gambian winger said: “I am looking forward to playing for the reigning Dutch champion. It is an honor to wear the Feyenoord shirt.

“I am grateful for this opportunity and will do everything I can to improve as a footballer. I am sure that Feyenoord will help me achieve my goals – just as I am convinced that I can in turn help Feyenoord in its sporting ambitions.”

While Newcastle compete in the Champions League next season, Minteh could too feature in the competition. Feyenoord are set to feature in Pot 1 after winning the Eredivisie. United, meanwhile, will be in Pot 4.

Magpies sporting director Dan Ashworth added: “We are very pleased to be bringing a player with Yankuba’s high potential to Newcastle United.

“He has done extremely well in his first full season in Denmark, and he has a promising career ahead of him. We look forward to working with him in this exciting phase of his development, and we’re excited to see how he performs at Feyenoord, a club that also has a strong development record of its own.

“As well as supporting the first team with players for the here and now, we have a clear philosophy to invest in emerging talent and we want to provide a player pathway that will help to build and sustain long-term success.”
