Newcastle United’s attempts to add a winger to their squad during the summer transfer window could have been handed a boost by one of their Premier League rivals.

Chelsea star Christian Pulisic was reportedly a target for the Magpies last summer and there were some suggestions United made a loan offer for the United States international. However, those offers and interest were rebuffed as Pulisic remained at Stamford Bridge - but went on to endure a frustrating season as his first-team opportunities were limited.

The former Borussia Dortmund star made just 10 starts in all competitions as the Blues struggled to make an impact in the Premier League, ending the campaign in the lower half of the table, despite a lavish spend in the transfer market that saw the likes of Mykhaylo Mudryk, Enzo Fernandez and Marc Cucurella move to West London.

There were some suggestions Pulisic had grown increasingly frustrated with his position within the Chelsea squad and it seems he may well get an opportunity to restart his career elsewhere this summer. Journalist Fabrizio Romano has stated the winger is ‘expected to leave’ Stamford Bridge over the coming months and is already attracting interest from Serie A giants AC Milan, who are also said to have held talks with Pulisic’s Chelsea team-mate Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Romano has already reported another Italian club are set to provide the competition for the signing of another player linked with a move to Newcastle this summer.

The Magpies have been suggested as possible suitors for Eintracht Frankfurt defender Evan N’Dicka as he approaches the final weeks of his current contract with the Bundesliga club. The former France Under-21 international has impressed during his five-year stay at Deutsche Bank Park but will now depart on a free transfer at the end of this month.

The likes of Newcastle, Manchester United and Manchester City have all been linked with a move for the centre-back - but Romano has revealed N’Dicka is in talks with Jose Mourinho’s Roma after they made an initial offer of a five-year deal to take him to Serie A.
