Newcastle United are reportedly considering making a shock summer move for Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies.

The Canada International has became an integral figure with the Bundesliga giants ever since he joined them from Vancouver in January 2019 for what was a record fee received by an MLS club prior to Miguel Almiron’s £20m switch to Newcastle just weeks later.

After making his Bundesliga debut as a late substitute in a 3-1 win against Stuttgart just three weeks after signing, Davies scored his first Bayern goal in a 6-0 romp against Mainz two months later, becoming the club’s youngest ever goalscorer.

He has since gone on to become a four-time Bundesliga champion, as well as lifting the German Cup twice, three German Super Cups, a UEFA Super Cup and a FIFA Club World Cup. He also added a Champions League Final win to his growing list of achievements when Kingsley Coman goal gave his side a 1-0 win against Paris Saint-Germain in August 2020.

Still only 22-years-old, Davies has already made 141 appearances for Bayern and has landed 12 major honours, as well as winning 36 senior caps for Canada. He also played a lead role in helping his country qualifying for the World Cup Finals for only the second time in their history last year and appeared in all three games as they exited at the group stage in Qatar.

Davies still has two and a half years remaining on his current contract with Bayern and would command a sizeable transfer fee - but journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed the full-back has ‘peaked’ the interest of Magpies sporting director Dan Ashworth.

He told Caught Offside: “I also think Newcastle would prefer, as priority, a left-back. Eddie Howe values a young, speedy and dynamic kind of player in that position. The modern full-back can almost be confused with a winger at times. That’s why a profile like Bayern’s Alphonso Davies has peaked sporting director Dan Ashworth’s interest.”
