Eddie Howe avoids Crystal Palace tactic as Newcastle United respond to 'new' Marc Guehi bid
Newcastle’s pursuit of the 24-year-old has been played out in public this week after Palace chairman Steve Parish warned on Tuesday that “nobody has got to the valuation yet” and that the Eagles are “nowhere near the point where we need to make a decision”.

“Not at all, I can’t only control myself and what I say, and I try to do that as well as I can but you’re not in control of every aspect of the deal and other clubs, sometimes even your own club, and that’s fine because there’s loads of different ways to work,” he told NewcastleWorld.
“I don’t comment on transfer speculation more out of respect for the other club and the player involved because if you comment on one then you have to comment on everybody. I don’t want to go down that road.

The Magpies have so far seen three bids rejected for Guehi. It’s been reported that a fourth offer has been lodged, which is closer to the player’s £65million valuation. Asked if that was indeed the case, Howe replied: “Not that I know of.”
But Howe remains hopeful of recruiting at least one player before the summer transfer window closes in a fortnight’s time.

Speaking about transfer in general, Howe added: “I think everybody is looking for the best players that they can find. I think from our perspective we have a good squad when everybody is fit. To sign players and make your squad better is difficult but it is achievable, we can do it.
“But what you don’t want to do is make a signing and then in three or four months time go ‘it hasn’t really kicked us on anywhere’ and you’re just adding numbers. That’s something we have to avoid at all costs in my opinion. It’s players that can take the team on that we’re looking for.
