Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe expects Martin Dubravka to join Manchester United before tonight’s 11pm deadline.

The Slovakian was left out of the Magpies’ squad against Liverpool last night for the third successive game as a loan move to Old Trafford edges closer.

Howe suggested he wanted Dubravka to stay at St James’ Park but the goalkeeper expressed a desire to join the Red Devils after losing his No.1 spot to Nick Pope.

Dubravka is likely to be United’s only senior departure, although the club hope to find Matty Longstaff a new club.

Howe said after the late defeat at Anfield: “I don’t expect any further outgoings from any senior players, maybe one or two of the younger guys that need some games.

“Martin, we anticipate will leave us.”

Speaking ahead of the trip to Anfield, Howe played down talk of “major business”, with a loan move a potential avenue to be explored.

“We’re very pleased with the business we’ve done. The injuries we have are believed to be short-term.

“There might be a bit of short-term pain around the squad but longer-term when those bodies back fit, I think we’re very strong.

“That’s not to say we are totally closed off. We’re obviously still looking but I don’t expect any major business to be done.”
