Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner felt his side deserved to beat Newcastle United.

The Magpies scored what they thought was the winner seven minutes into the second-half when Marc Guehi, who was the club’s main transfer target in the summer, deflected Anthony Gordon’s cross into his own net.

But Guehi played a part in the equaliser, deep into stoppage time, when his cross was headed home by Daniel Munoz at the back post.

Palace registered 11 shots at goal compared to United’s zero.

“The result is not a good result when we look at the performance,” said Glasner. The performance was very, very positive. We had 16 shots in 100 minutes against Newcastle. We only allowed them one finish all game.

“We deserved more today with how the players played and the chances we created. When you score an equaliser in the 94th minute, you have to be happy with it. We are, but the feeling is not that it was a lucky point.

“The feeling is more that we lost two points today because the performance was really very good.”

When Glasner’s comments were put to Howe, he said: “I can see why he would say that from his perspective, Palace were the team with the most shots in the game. But we did what we needed to do as an away team, we defended well and took the lead.

“Our aims then change really, even though we're always looking to score but I thought we managed that second half really well when we scored.

“We were camped in their half, we had set play after set play and they didn't seem a big threat for us in that moment in the game - it felt like we had dealt with everything they had thrown at us until the last actions.
