Eddie Howe makes Newcastle United vow that Leeds United fans will enjoy

Eddie Howe insists he will pick his strongest Newcastle United starting XI to take on Burnley today.

The Magpies, on paper, have nothing to play for, although three points could see them jump into the Premier League top 10 if results go their way.

Burnley, however, have their top-flight status on the line.

Mike Jackson’s side, 17th in the table, must match Leeds United’s result at Brentford to confirm survival.

Staying up is out of Leeds’ hands but Jesse Marsch & Co may take some confidence from Howe’s vow to play his strongest team.

“We’ll pick our strongest team, and try and win the game,” said the Magpies head coach. There’s no let up from our perspective.

“We’re determined to end the season on a high. Tactically, we’ll try and get it right. Burnley’s a totally different challenge.”

At many stages in the season, a trip to Burnley on the final day for Newcastle was viewed as a potential relegation decider.

However, United incredibly surged away from the relegation places with 35 points in total betered only by Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

“We were prepared (for it to go to the wire), and, at one stage, definitely if you had offered us the last day with a chance to stay up if we won that game, then we would have taken it, because we were so far back,” said Howe.

“But that seemed success at the time. Now, of course, since then, we’ve gone on this incredible run, the players have done an amazing job to get the job done early – and now we’re not in that position.

“I can tell you from my experience, that’s an amazing feeling.”
