Newcastle United are to welcome back Callum Wilson against Manchester City, while a late call will be made on Kieran Trippier.

Eddie Howe revealed ahead of the trip to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon that Wilson completed a full week of training.

Trippier, meanwhile, trained but only on some days.

Wilson teased his return earlier this week. The 30-year-old has been sidelined since December with a calf injury.

“Callum has trained all week,” Howe told reporters. “We’re really pleased with him, he’s trained very well.

“He had two really tough days and he’s come through those days excellently. Physically, he looks very good, he’s put a lot of work in to get to this point.

“(I’m) very pleased, as always, with Callum’s attitude. He looks in a good place, so there is a good chance he’ll be involved.”

Howe continued to say that a late decision will be made on Trippier’s selection for the visit to the Premier League champions.

The England international has been ruled out since mid-February after fracturing the fifth metatarsal in his left foot.

His injury came in just his fifth game for the Magpies after joining from Atletico Madrid for £12million at the beginning of the January transfer window.

Trippier scored two free-kicks to overcome Everton and Aston Villa at St James’ Park before spending the last three months on the sidelines.

Howe said: “Kieran is slightly behind him this week as he hasn’t trained every day but when he has trained, he’s trained very well.

“We’ll make a late decision on him.”
