Eddie Howe has praised Will Osula for handling his transfer to Newcastle United with “real class”.

The 21-year-old forward became the Magpies’ fifth summer signing when he joined from Sheffield United for £15million earlier this month.

Osula had only trained twice with his new teammates before making his non-competitive debut in the 1-0 win over Stade Brestois on August 10.

It was a positive first outing for Osula, but he is yet to be used in the Premier League having not made it off the bench in the two opening matches against Southampton and AFC Bournemouth.

He could, however, feature in the Carabao Cup second round tie away to Nottingham Forest tonight with Howe admitting there will be changes.

Asked how Osula was settling in, Howe told NewcastleWorld: “Yeah, he’s doing really well, very pleased with him. It’s always a big step when you come to a club of this size and everything that goes with that, it’s a lot for a young player to take on board, his first move as well in his career.

“I think he’s handled himself with real class, trained very well, he’s been very level and grounded and focusing on his game to make improvements he needs to make but he’s got all the qualities we saw when we signed him.

“We’re really looking forward to seeing how his career develops.”

Osula was signed as third choice striker behind £83m duo Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson, although the latter’s continued absence with a back injury means the Denmark youth international is currently back-up to Isak.

Explaining Osula’s arrival, Howe said: “I think it’s a very tricky situation because we’ve got two outstanding centre forwards in my opinion, very good. And to find someone to compliment them isn’t as easy as you think it is.

“To find any young striker we can develop… I don’t think he’ll have two better centre forwards to learn from, pick their brains and use as role models. I think he’s come into a real healthy environment. It’ s not easy to find players with a profile.

“Of course, financially it had to work us as well, we couldn’t spend outrageous sums of money so I think this is a good deal for us. We’ve got a lot of work to do with him but he’s a really good character and I’m sure he’ll enjoy his time with us.”
