'Definitely won't be' - Newcastle United striker ruled out of 10 matches after fresh injury update
The 32-year-old missed all six of the Magpies’ pre-season friendlies after sustaining a back injury during the squad’s visit to Adidas’ HQ in Herzogenaurach at the start of July.
Howe previously suggested Wilson could return for the visit to Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday and Sunday’s Premier League clash at home to Tottenham Hotspur.

Hide AdSpeaking ahead of the opener versus Southampton, Howe said: “Callum will be early season, a couple of games in I think. He’s making really good progress. He feels good and wants to push a bit faster but we’re just trying to manage his comeback.”
However, a fresh update from Howe has ruled Wilson out until the trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, September 15. It means the 32-year-old has missed 10 matches in total (six in pre-season and four competitive).
"Callum is continuing his rehabilitation from injury; I am happy with his progress,” said United’s head coach. “He is working very hard, as he always does. We miss him, he adds a different dynamic. He is such an important character around the squad, we hope to get him back soon.
“He definitely won't be back before the international break.”

Hide AdNewcastleWorld has learned this week that Fulham have enquired about Wilson but Howe has made it clear he wants to keep the Englishman. Behind Alexander Isak and Wilson, United have Will Osula for back-up after the 21-year-old joined from Sheffield United.
Meanwhile, Howe also remains without Lewis Miley (metatarsal), Sven Botman (ACL) and Jamaal Lascelles (ACL), while Fabian Schar is suspended until that trip to Molineux after his controversial red card on the opening day.
Sandro Tonali returns to the fold this week following the end of his 10-month ban. The Italian will be in the squad against Forest and could start the game.
