Ex Newcastle United and Liverpool forward Craig Bellamy has given his opinion on the Tyneside club's takeover a year on.

The Welshman, whose 93 appearances for Newcastle was more than any other of his nine clubs, admitted he was happy for the fans that the takeover had gone through. Bellamy also had words of praise for Sporting Director Dan Ashworth, after facing Newcastle in a pre-season meeting behind closed doors in the summer.

Chatting on The Central Club podcast, current Burnley assistant manager said: "Money always wins. I believe this will. They will get to where they need to, it won't be as quick because of FFP and will be a longer period than what Chelsea and Man City were able to do.

"We played them pre-season and saw the difference straight away. More support staff, Dan Ashworth who I really like, he's a Director of Football there. Spoke to him for a while. It's a club that will go well. I'm glad someone done that for a club like Newcastle."

Bellamy's highlights in a black and white shirt included a 90th-minute winner in a Champions League match against Feyenoord and scoring seven goals in two months when bouncing back from injury in 2004.

The attacker's time at St. James' Park was marred by bad behaviour on the pitch, picking up bans for headbutts and swinging arms, as well as off-the-pitch fallouts with staff and players.

Bellamy went on to play for Celtic, Blackburn Rovers, Liverpool, West Ham, Manchester City and Cardiff after leaving Tyneside, before taking up his assistant manager role at Turf Moor.
