Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer couldn’t help but crack a joke with fellow pundit and former Manchester City star Micah Richards after a scuffle at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

The Metropolitan Police have launched an investigation into the incident at the Arsenal ground at the weekend after a video circulated online showing Richards and Sky Sports colleague Roy Keane involved in an altercation with a fan.

talkSPORT reported that Richards stepped into the confrontation in an effort to calm those involved down and appeared to restrain a man, who had allegedly aimed a headbutt at Keane and tried to hit him on the chest and chin.

The incident took place towards the end of the meeting between the two clubs with the pundits believed to have been making their way down towards the pitch for post-match punditry duties with the confrontation taking place in the Emirates Stadium’s West Stand.

As Richards appeared alongside Shearer and Gary Lineker on The Rest is Football podcast, the coming together was the very first thing the trio talked about. A smirking Lineker began: “One of us had an interesting weekend! Micah, you’re in the news.”

Richards replied: “Gary, I’m not allowed to talk about it. But when I’m allowed to talk about it, The Rest is Football will get it first.”

Not even trying to keep a straight face, in the background of the recording Shearer began to break out in song as he chanted the Rocky theme tune, bringing about a chorus of giggles from Richards and Lineker. The Newcastle United legend added: “I think the common opinion is don’t f**k with Big Meeks. Flex the guns, Micah!”

The incident happened during the dramatic meeting between Arsenal and Manchester United, which the Gunners won 3-1 after VAR controversy saw a second Red Devils goal chalked off for outside. A 42-year-old man was arrested on Monday on suspicion of assault after the alleged incident.

Sky Sports also released a statement and said: “We understand the police are investigating an alleged assault by a member of the public immediately preceding the footage circulating on social media. In the footage seen, Micah Richards was acting to diffuse a situation.”

Lineker and Shearer were clearly keen to hear more about what happened from Richards but, after the ex-Magpies talisman finished his Rocky singalong, Lineker calmed down the joking. He said: “In case those of you are unaware, there was an incident at Arsenal yesterday where allegedly Roy Keane was headbutted by someone and a certain Micah Richards stepped in.

“We’ll get the full story at some point, it’s something we shouldn’t trivialise either because obviously that’s a serious thing if fans start attacking people. We’ll wait until the police investigation is done before we cover that story even more.”
