A football historian has shared incredible footage of Newcastle United and Everton playing against each other over a century ago in League Division One.

Iain McMullen who’s behind The Football and First World War Twitter account shared the clip and said: ‘Here’s one for the Evertonians- this video of Goodison Park is 121 years old and shows a game between Everton and Newcastle United.

‘It was played in front of 20,000 on 13 September 1992 and ended in 1-0 victory for the away side.’

The goal was scored by Willie Stewart, a right winger who seems to have only stayed on Tyneside for a short time.

Newcastle United’s top goalscorer for the 1902/03 season was Bill Appleyard who signed for the club in April 1903.

He ended up scoring 16 goals in 31 matches that season to put him in the top spot.
