Manchester United star Scott McTominay has been urged to snub interest from Newcastle United and consider a loan move to Scottish giants Rangers.
That was the verdict of former Magpies defender Craig Moore, who also enjoyed a highly successful six-year spell at Ibrox prior to his move to Tyneside during the summer of 2005.

Hide AdRed Devils midfielder McTominay has enjoyed a remarkable week after coming off the bench to score twice in Scotland’s Euro 2024 qualifier against Cyprus last Saturday before repeating that trick in a shock 2-0 hoe win against Spain at Hampden Park in midweek. The 26-year-old has made over 200 appearances in all competitions for the Old Trafford club since making his debut as a late substitute in a 2-0 defeat against Arsenal during the final month of the 2016/17 season.
However, there have been widespread reports he could be allowed to depart this summer, with Newcastle reportedly keen to add the 38-times capped Scotland international to their midfield ranks at the end of the season. But Moore, who made 31 appearances for the Magpies during Glenn Roeder’s managerial reign, believes one of this other former clubs should make an ambitious move to sign McTominay at the end of the season and described the midfielder as ‘a fantastic professional’.
Speaking on the Go Radio football show, Moore insisted Rangers could take advantage of the Red Devils’ reluctance to sell a player to a rival at the top end of the Premier League.
“He would be amazing for Rangers,” said the former Australian international. “He has a physicality and a presence. He does the simple things well. He’s not a fancy player but he does the basics very well.

I don’t know what Rangers are looking at but to see someone like McTominay and it would only be a loan because that’s the only way a deal would be possible - would be great. But Man United would probably swallow a large part of that bill. It would make more sense, the loan scenario, being in Scotland and if it was Rangers domestically, Man United don’t want to strengthen their competitors.”
