There has been just one signing after Australian youngster Garang Kuol formally completed his move to St James Park after the Magpies agreed a deal with A-League club Central Coast Mariners back in September. However, the forward’s development will be continued at Tynecastle, rather than Tyneside, after he joined Scottish club Hearts on loan until the end of the season.
There have been further loan deals completed after Joe White and Dan Langley joined Exeter City and Spennymoor Town respectively and Mexican forward Santiago Munoz has returned to Santos Laguna after his loan spell with United drew to a rather low-key conclusion.
But could we see any incoming signings over the next fortnight as the Magpies look to build on the momentum they have built up to force themselves into becoming a genuine contender for a place in European competition next season? NewcastleWorld assesses which players could move to Tyneside this month and gaves a take on those that probably will not be wearing black and white any time soon.
1. COULD JOIN: Youri Tielemans - Leicester City
The Foxes midfielder is believed to have admirers within the St James Park hierarchy and is said to have cropped up in transfer discussions. His performance in Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup Final was far from impressive but he remains an option as his current deal at the King Power Stadium approaches its final months. Photo: Getty Images
2. COULD JOIN: Harrison Ashby - West Ham United
Ashby is one of a number of options being considered as the Magpies look to provide backup and competition for Kieran Trippier. There was some belief the youngster would move to Tyneside in the final days of the summer transfer window - but a move failed to come to fruition. Photo: Shaun Botterill
3. COULD JOIN: Ivan Fresneda - Real Valladolid
Another young defender being considered as a possible option at right-back. Fresneda has been watched on several occasions but United face competition from a number of ‘top European clubs’ according to the most recent reports. Photo: Getty Images
4. COULD JOIN: Marcus Thuram - Borussia Monchengladbach
The France international is said to be on the radar of a number of clubs around Europe as he enters the final months of his current deal with Borussia Monchengladbach. Another player with admirers at St James Park and an option that has been discussed. Photo: KIRILL KUDRYAVTSEV
