A number of EFL and Scottish clubs were believed to have shown an interest in taking Kuol on loan after United manager Eddie Howe indicated the youngster’s development would be aided by a temporary move away from the North East - and Hearts won the race for his signature when he completed a move to the Scottish capital earlier this week.

Speaking after Kuol’s unveiling, Hearts manager Robbie Nielson revealed his hopes for the young forward’s time with his club.

Speaking to the club website, he said: "We're getting a player who is by no means the finished article but there is a lot of talent there. You don't get called up to and play in the World Cup for nothing. He'll offer us new options going forward as we look to continue our good form and continue to make progress in the league and in the Scottish Cup, and we're really looking forward to working with him."

Once official confirmation of the deal was released, Kuol took to his Instagram account to react to his move from Tyneside to Tynecastle. In the post he said: “The journey begins. What a club to be at! Can’t wait @HeartofMidlothian.” That provoked a reaction from Magpies co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi as he replied: “Good luck and see you soon.”

Kuol could make his Hearts debut on Friday night when his temporary employers host St Mirren.
