'Frightening' - Newcastle United fans pick dream star whose ability could 'unlock' Alexander Isak

The class of 2024/25 have done something hundreds and hundreds of players have tried to do before them. The current Magpies’ crop left Tyneside with hopes and dreams and this time, returned from Wembley with silverware. While their achievements will see them written into black and white legend, there’s still room for improvement - and that’s not lost on NUFC fans.

With that in mind, we asked our Facebook followers who was the one player of Magpies’ past they’d love to see brought into the current XI. And while there were some good shouts, with the likes of Tony Green and Shay Given get the nod by some, one name kept cropping up, time and time again - the one and only, Peter Beardsley.

Chris Holliday: "Beardsley would fit in with today's game he had a quick brain important to the modern game. How much would Beardsley cost in today's market."

Dean Huddleston: "Tricky one. Shay Given maybe. Just trying to think who would strengthen the first 11."

Glenn Cleave: "Beardsley. Play him just ahead of the midfield, Isak would break league scoring records. Phenomenal player for every team he played for and without doubt the most humble."

Ray Gilbey: "Wor Jackie or some of the 50s FA cup winners."

Alan Johnson: "Beardsley all day, because we have Isak to score goals."

Trevor Bruce: "Ginola should have stayed at Newcastle longer."

David Watson: "Thoughts turn immediately to al but has to be Pedro."

Steven Liddle: "If Beardsley was playing in this team Isak would score goals for fun."

Stephen Mills: "Shearer and Isak up front with Gordon would be unstoppable especially with our midfield."
