Eddie Howe hopes Anthony Gordon will be available for Newcastle United's Premier League trip to Everton on Thursday evening (kick-off 7:30pm).

The 22-year-old scored the winner in the Magpies' 1-0 victory against Manchester United yesterday but was spotted limping at full-time.

"Yeah I don’t know at this moment in time, I hope so," said Howe when asked about the winger's status "He just said he was feeling tightness in his hip. Fingers crossed it’s nothing serious."

Gordon netted his sicth goal of the 2023-24 campaign having only previously scored eight goals in his senior career.

"He, himself, has worked really hard on that. Really pleased because I thought he played really well at the start of the season but every attacker needs to score to get that feeling and the confidence that brings.

"Not just the goals but he’s getting assists as well, he’s involved in match-winning moments. I thought he played really well again today. It was a brilliant cross from Kieran [Trippier]. A good move and good finish.

"Anthony’s got this desire to get better every day. On the training pitch, he wants to do extra, and we sometimes have to take him off the pitch ourselves when we feel he’s done enough.

"But he’s got a burning motivation in him to be the best he’s capable of becoming. We love working with him.”

He now returns to Goodison Park, the club he joined United from in January for £45million, where a hostile reception is expected.

While it's likely will shake off his knock in time for Everton, Magpies goalkeeper Nick Pope is unlikely to feature having dislocated his shoulder against Man United.

Howe revealed: "That’s the disappointment on the night. It looks like he’s dislocated his shoulder. Such a strange thing really because he’d have made that dive thousands of times. It just looks like the arm’s kept going on the moist floor and his shoulder has come out of joint.

"We’re going to have to seek a specialist opinion and see what happens but it doesn't look good for him.”
