Newcastle United are able to gain an extra two hours to conclude any last minute business on transfer deadline day.

It has been a quiet January transfer window for Newcastle United as the Magpies continue to contend with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability regulations.

Much of the last month has been dominated by talk of a high-profile departure after the likes of Callum Wilson, Kieran Trippier, Bruno Guimaraes and Miguel Almiron were all linked with moves away from St James Park. In reality, exits have been limited to young duo Remi Savage and Dylan Stephenson joining Inverness Caledonian Thistle and South Shields respectively and Isaac Hayden is reportedly set to join Championship club Queens Park Rangers on loan for the rest of the season.

There has been one new face arriving at St James Park after the Magpies confirmed the addition of highly-rated Manchester City youngster Alfie Harrison on deadline day - but it seems increasingly likely that will be the sum total of incomings when the transfer window closes on Thursday night. However, there is one way the Magpies could secure additional time to complete a deal if they wish to conduct some last-minute business.

When does the January transfer window close?

There is something a little bit different in this year’s January transfer window - it doesn’t actually close until February!  Clubs are able to conclude deals up until midnight on Thursday 1st February - although there is a way to secure extra time to get their last-minute transfers secured should any clubs be considering some late business!

What is a transfer deal sheet and how is it used?

With players, managers, club officials and agents all involved in the increasingly complex world of transfers, the Premier League will allow additional time for clubs to put the finishing touches to deals - but there are guidelines which must be abided to before a deal sheet can be utilised.

Using the example of the current transfer window, a deal sheet can not be used before 10pm on Thursday night and it can not be submitted after the transfer deadline of midnight. The sheet contains full details of the transfer including the clubs involved, a full rundown of the deal including a payment schedule and any additional payments that may take place in future.  This must be completed in full and submitted to the Premier League before a club can be granted another two hours to formally complete the deal.

There is one matter to take into consideration ahead of tonight's deadline - the official Premier League website confirms any club wishing to complete the transfer of a player from a club outside of England still have to comply with FIFA's Transfer Matching System deadline of midnight.
