Dan Burn has urged Newcastle United owners to keep Bruno Guimaraes this summer. A lifelong Toon fan, Burn echoed what many on the terraces are hoping for following the Magpies’ 1-0 win over Fulham. The Brazilian was the difference-maker as his strike was enough to earn all three points at Craven Cottage.

An emotional celebration saw Guimaraes beat his chest and knee slide before gesturing love hearts to the away end - symbolising the relationship between player and fans. The 26-year-old dived head first into Newcastle from day one, learning English, barely missing a game, showcasing South American flair and passion while producing magical on-field moments.

But reports have ramped up in recent months linking him with a move away. Those links heightened when a £100million release clause inserted into his October contract became public knowledge.

Continental heavyweights like Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City and Real Madrid are rumoured to be keeping tabs on Guimaraes’ situation on Tyneside. The midfielder has hinted at European football being a key factor in deciding his future - giving another ambiguous answer when grilled after the Fulham win.

Concerns about FFP/PSR restrictions may also force Newcastle’s hand - as they did in the January transfer window. Speaking to The Athletic, Toon defender Burn called upon the Saudi-backed regime to reject all offers for Guimaraes.

“Everyone waxes lyrical about Bruno because he’s an amazing player,” he said. “If we want to kick on as a club, then we need to keep hold of our best players. When Bruno plays well, we tend to play well. Bruno has got moments of quality - things no other player can do. He’s huge for us.”
