Newcastle United take on Bundesliga club Mainz in their second and final pre-season friendly of their training camp in Austria.

Hot on the heels of Friday’s 3-0 win against 1860 Munich comes a meeting with a Mainz side that fell to a 1-0 defeat against Turkish side Besiktas in their last pre-season fixture.

The game provides a step up in class for Eddie Howe’s men as they face opposition that finished last season sat in eighth place in the Bundesliga table.

Where and when is the Mainz game taking place?

The game will be held at the Grenzlandstadion Arena, home of Austrian regional league side FC Kufstein.

The 4,500-capacity stadium is around 40 miles away from the Saalfelden Arena where Newcastle beat 1860 Munich on Friday.

Kick-off is at 4pm BST.

When did Newcastle last face Mainz?

The only previous meeting of the two sides took place in a pre-season friendly during the summer of 2017.

Who could feature in Monday’s game?

Summer signings Sven Botman and Nick Pope and January additions Bruno Guimaraes and Chris Wood all made their first appearances of pre-season during Friday’s win against 1860 Munich.

Swiss centre-back Fabian Schar also saw game-time against the German side after he was given extra time to recover from international duty during the summer.

Javier Manquillo is currently seeing a specialist in Spain after picking up an injury.
